THE CREATORS' FORUM
THE CREATORS' FORUM
The discussion about legal harmonisation in the member states of the European Union, of directives, programmes and initiatives of the European Commission and Directorates General, the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers have led - in addition to the permanently active lobbies of trade associations and global players - to a number of temporary coalitions for well defined purposes. If, however, in the fields of copyright or culture for example a "Rightholders' Coalition" or even an "ad hoc coalition" is being established and signatures are requested for voluminous protests and diligently elaborated petitions, it may not at all be presumed in every particular case that these actions really serve the interests of authors and the creators of culture.
Drawing from this experience and in recognition of their own weakness the small number of authentic creators' organisations acting at the European level have agreed to meet informally whenever necessary, preferably before major hearings and important conferences, in order to prepare and co-ordinate joint position papers dealing with proposed measures of the European Union. Participants in this kind of working meetings of the Creators' Forum have been delegated by (in alphabetical order, see list of abbreviations) EFAH, EFJ, EVA, EWC, FERA/AIDAA, FIA, FIM, MEI and PYRAMIDE; IFRRO representatives have been present as guests occasionally - they have to take into account the interests of publishers as well.
